Me and the father in law have been members for a couple of years now. We joined because I was looking for somewhere nice to take him, with good parking and toilets. He’s not good on his feet and can’t walk very far at all. The lakes are perfect for him, a good path all the way around, so he can use his scooter.
We mostly fish Karen’s, as carp fishing is easier for him, less tangles!! We share a peg and fish one rod each, so I can look after him!
He caught 3 carp pretty quickly after we set up, biggest 6lb 4, then it went quiet for a long time. I was packing up my rod first, then his rod went screaming off, and he was in for a bit of a battle, not a bad finish to the day, landing a 19lb 4. And I didn’t catch anything, but still really enjoyed watching and helping him.
Just want to say a thank you to everyone that helps look after the lakes, so I can take him fishing, well not sure I want to take him now after he out fished me!!

Popped up to Tarka swims today to have a look around.
I fished it when it first opened on its open day, only one lake and oh my how impressed I was visiting it today.
Seeing it in all its glory now with 2 lakes, so glad I have joined your club and look forward to fishing both lakes!!
Two very impressive lakes, Well done to everyone involved !!

Can I give a big thank you to Bideford and District Angling Club and their wonderful members who spent time with our group yesterday The North Devon Forum for Autistic Spectrum conditions and ADHD and helping us fish. We had a fantastic time. Everyone caught a number of fish and had a wonderful afternoon. Thank you so much Steve Bailey and your fantastic gang of anglers for organising this event for us in amazing surroundings.
Nice comment from Alan Nettlefold. Hi I had a walk around your Lakes on Tuesday 26th and was instantly sold on applying to join, I paid via bacs and posted my form the same day.
Hi Mervyn, thanks again for sending on my information to Steve. Met him yesterday morning at Tarka Swims and we were very impressed. Steve gave us the full tour of the lakes and then sat down and went through how he could help me. I can't thank him enough it's so much appreciated. Just to say I will be applying for membership today and hopefully my application will be accepted as already started buying new kit. Kind Regards Pete Salisbury.

Had a walk around earlier this afternoon, as was in the area, and Haven't managed to get up there for a while lately..... A huge genuine THANK YOU to everyone who has worked so hard to make Tarka Swims so utterly brilliant!.. It is still looking great, and I still have some FABULOUS memories of fishing there with Ellis Hall, and others... Superb work guys.. Respect
